Why do i get an error installing a HP Printer to a Dell computer?

i have 2 computers with XP, plenty of memory and hard drive space. I tried to replace a printer, with HP OfficeJet 6310 all in one. I had tried to install HP software on computer 1 but i got an error about microsoft couldn't verify authentisity. i hooked up the printer and software to computer 2, and it worked fine, it works. the computers are shared so i know you can do it with two computers. It was odd because I did not get the error on computer 2 and they are both dell computers and both have XP. now i am stuck and can't get the cd to load on computer 1. i cant download since i really need the software to be installed then i could download drivers if needed. I even tried system restore and no luck. I didnt want to go to far back incase system restore took off my quickbooks entries. I also tried rebooting computer from last know good start. i was on phone with HP for 4 hours today, he couldnt figure out. i think its something i am overlooking, probably an easy fix. I have serious concerns about the competantcy of the tech you were speaking with. If you were on the phone with them for 4 hours, and they didn't provide more info about the downloadable drivers, they were either new, technically incompetant, or in India. The last one is the most likely, although it could be all 3.

The drivers on the HP website are a full package, both software and drivers. You do not use the disk when you are using the download. Any HP tech should have been able to tell you that.

I would advise cleaning any and all HP software from the system, using add/remove programs. Maybe call HP again, and have them walk you through a Level 3 uninstall (or even level 4, if they think it's necessary). Hopefully you get someone better on the line this time. Avoid the ';online chat'; with an issue like this, as they are very basic first-teir techs there who can't resolve an issue like this.

If you keep getting routed through to India, try asking for Canadian support. It could take 4 or 5 (or more!) transfers, but the Canadian techs are much better trained, and speak proper english.

Anyway, after doing a level 3 or level 4 uninstall, download the full package from the site (Save to PC from site, and install from there - DO NOT choose ';install'; when you start the download!). Make sure the printer is not connected. Start the install from the downloaded driver.

Also, be sure that you have all your windows updates, etc. Try these updates as well, before doing the install again.

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8

MSXML Parser 4.0

.NET Framework 2.0 (you probably have the most updated version already, but can't hurt to check).

As a previous person mentioned, you often can click on ';Continue Anyway'; and have it work, when you get the authenticity message.

You can download some drivers seperately for this unit, but they are not intended to be used with the software. When you install from the disk, you CAN NOT install software only, without drivers. Don't use the disk, or the downloadable software package, if you are using the ';driver only'; downloads. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw鈥?/a>

Even if you did manage to get it to install, you would have all kinds of conflict issues.

You can also try a generic driver. Go to the add printer wizard (Control Panel %26gt; Printers) and install the ';HP Deskjet 870c'; (for a USB connected printer). That will not give you scan functionality, but you would at least be able to print.

Hope that helps! Why do i get an error installing a HP Printer to a Dell computer?
some time you can the drivers installer in tow platform:

win 32 86x

win 64x

make sure that u use the win32 or 86x

good luck
Well, there should be a button when Windows yells at you about it not being able to verify that lets you install it anyway.
