i tried to scan some pictures onto my macbook from my printer.. but everytime i try to scan pictures a pop up comes up saying ';USB is not connected'; or something like that.. i checked my usb cord and everything is connected so why isnt it working??

Have you installed the software that came with the scanner? Log on to the hp website and download the latest drivers and while there check with the support people to see if they can offer some suggestions.
